“NIL is such an unprecedented area”-NCAA’s highest-earning female athlete Olivia Dunne on NIL Money

Those wanting to profit from the unexpected NIL boom are being urged to exercise patience by Olivia Dunne.

The Street recently spoke with LSU’s star gymnast, whose name, image, and likeness are valued at seven figures, and she gave advice to aspiring and current collegiate athletes on how to navigate possible prospects in this new climate.

Olivia said,

“I would say first and foremost, find a really good agent. That was the first thing I did. And just take your time. Don’t rush into anything. Don’t be in a rush to make a lot of money. Take your time because it’ll come.”

“NIL is such an unprecedented area. At first, when it changed, nobody knew really what was going on. I didn’t. LSU didn’t, and other universities didn’t, and the brands didn’t know either. So, to just take your time and the money will be there.”

Since the NCAA’s rule change in 2021, student-athletes like Dunne have been able to make money off of themselves.

The 20-year-old native of New Jersey has now signed brand agreements with other businesses, including the sportswear brand Vuori.

Dunne stated that “surround yourself with trustworthy people” is another essential component of success with a NIL valuation of $3.4 million, according to On3 Sports.

“I have my family, my coaches, my team, very trustworthy people. Make sure there’s people that aren’t going to use you for that money,” she said.

In the case of a windfall, Dunne advises investing and saving.

“For other athletes, especially, that are in college, I would say spend your money like a college student, put all that money away, invest it, and just spend it like a normal college kid,” she said.

As she made her eagerly awaited debut in this year’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, Dunne’s fame has only risen in recent weeks.

Dunne told the outlet that she tries her best not to pay attention to those who want to chirp about her accomplishment.

“There’s always people who want to downplay your success and say it’s just because of how you look or it’s just luck,” Dunne said.
