Radio Host Joe Benigno Has No Hopes From Mets’ Max Scherzer

Over the past month, Scherzer has made very little progress within the New York Mets organization. His performances have been terrible when he has been able to go to the mound.

Radio Host Joe Benigno Has No Hopes From Mets’ Max Scherzer

We haven’t seen a much of Max Scherzer this season due to a mix of injuries and suspensions.

Since the close of the previous campaign, when Scherzer was battered by the Braves with the division on the line before being destroyed by the Padres in the Wild Card Series, his time with the Mets has taken a sharp decline. He admitted to reporters that he was “fighting like hell” to avoid the IL before the neck spasms started after serving a 10-game suspension.

Joe Benigno is prepared to announce that Max Scherzer’s Hall of Fame career is gone even if the righty was still struggling with neck spasms on Thursday.

“Max is done as far as I’m concerned,” Joe said. “He’s 39 years old. We saw it last year, he started to break down. He was terrible in the big games against Atlanta and San Diego.”

Over the past 33 days, the three-time Cy Young Award winner has only been able to finish 6.1 innings. On May 3, he pitched just 3.1 innings while allowing six runs, eight hits, and two home runs against the Detroit Tigers. He only played in that game after serving a 10-game suspension for using an illicit foreign drug.

“And is he ever pitching again?” Joe said. “What’s the deal? When is he pitching again?”

Joe is sceptical of Evan’s claim that Scherzer will be prepared to pitch this weekend.

“Don’t hold your breath,” Joe said.

The annoyance is only increased by the fact that Scherzer, along with Justin Verlander, earns the highest salary in the league. The pitcher will remain in Queens through the 2024 season thanks to a three-year, $130 million contract with the New York Mets.
