Aaron Rodgers Press Conference: Jets Introduced Their New QB

The New York Jets made their new quarterback available to the media on Wednesday. Owner Woody Johnson and quarterback Aaron Rodgers both started off with statements. Then Rodgers, head coach Robert Saleh, and general manager Joe Douglas answered queries from the media. However, no one other than Rodgers was asked any of the questions.

The greatest postseason drought in any major sport in North America, including the Jets, was also brought up when the four-time NFL MVP was questioned.

Here is what Rodgers had to say about the difficulties he would face in New York:

“That’s exciting. The jets have an incredible, passionate fan base, I saw that last year at Lambeau. I think that’s an exciting draw to this, as well as being a part of something special.”

“I grew up watching old VHS tapes of the Super Bowls. And so obviously, I know about… Broadway Joe, been a while since then. I noticed walking in this morning that Super Bowl III trophy looking a little lonely.”

Rodgers also made an obvious effort to gain favour with the New York media. The treatment that Rodgers would receive from the media, which tends to be left-leaning, has been the subject of much discussion.

But he said “hello” to every reporter who asked a question and called them by their first name. Don’t think I didn’t notice what you were trying to do, Aaron.

Rodgers spoke extensively about his decision to join the New York Jets, placing a strong emphasis on the team’s preparation for a Super Bowl run. In particular, he emphasized how the team was able to choose both the Offensive and Defensive Rookies of the Year (Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner) in the previous round.

“I’m an old guy, so I want to be part of a team that can win it all,” Rodgers said. “I believe this is a place where we can get that done.”

A handful of the queries centered on Rodgers’ prospects after this year. Rodgers obviously didn’t give anything away. How else is he going to milk the “will he retire?” talk next offseason?

He claimed that this season was his primary priority. He did, however, provide a small indication when he stated that it has always been his dream to play football “into his 40s.” Then he said that in December, he will be 40.

The New York Jets are predicted to make the playoffs now that Rodgers is their quarterback, but it will be difficult. The AFC is loaded, and the AFC East alone will be extremely difficult to contend with.

The new Jets quarterback now has better guys around him, so perhaps he can work things out for his new squad.
