Jackie Robinson Day: The Significant Influence Of No. 42
When Jackie Robinson made his historic Major League Baseball debut on April 15, 1947, he shattered baseball’s colour barrier. Baseball honours Jackie’s legacy every year on April 15 by honouring his life, principles, and accomplishments. Every player and every member of the on-field staff have been required to wear Jackie Robinson’s No. 42 during games scheduled on Jackie Robinson Day since 2009 as part of the extensive and unified League-wide show of support. Jackie’s number was retired throughout the Majors in 1997.

Together with the Jackie Robinson Foundation, Sony Interactive Entertainment, The Players Association, and Major League Baseball, the Jackie Robinson Foundation Charity Pack was developed. From April 14 through April 29, the pack will cost $5 and be sold exclusively on US digital platform retailers that sell MLB The Show. The bundle will contain 5,000 Stubs, bat skins from the Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF), a profile symbol for Jackie Robinson Day, and a profile banner icon for Jackie Robinson.

After deducting store platform fees, San Diego Studio and PlayStation stated they will be giving the Jackie Robinson Foundation 100% of the earnings from this pack. The contributions will help the JRF/PlayStation-MLB The Show Scholars Programme narrow the achievement gap for students from underrepresented groups in higher education.

As the first African-American to play Major League Baseball in the modern era, Jackie was a leading advocate for racial equality and social justice. He also played a crucial part in social development. According to Ramone, a product development communicator and brand strategist, “MLB will celebrate the anniversary of Jackie Robinson’s historic MLB debut as it has been tradition each season since 2004 as he broke baseball’s colour barrier throughout the league on April 15, 1947.”
"If he failed, an entire race of people would have failed."
