Aaron Rodgers Trade: Jets Might Lose The QB If They Further Delay The Signing

Although Aaron Rodgers is convinced that he wants to play for the New York Jets, he might not get his wish if the Green Bay Packers have their way.

Craig Carton, a sports pundit, believes that if the Packers hold out until the day of the draft in their talks, the Jets won’t get the player they want, and Rodgers may choose to sign somewhere else.

In his eponymous show, Carton named a deadline for when the Jets and the Packers would have to reach a deal:

“The Jets are still in the driver’s seat to get Aaron Rodgers, but I’ve also been around the block enough times to know that a deal’s not done until it’s done. … And I know for a fact (that) if this does not get done prior to the Draft, Aaron Rodgers will not be a New York Jet… because then (the Packers) are gonna open up to what other teams might be offering, like San Francisco.

Mark Murphy, the president of the Green Bay Packers, declined to say if the organisation is anticipating the New York Jets’ acceptance of their offer to trade for Aaron Rodgers or whether it is the other way around. Nearly a month after Rodgers declared his intention to switch teams, there was still no indication that a deal was about to be reached.

When asked if Jets general manager Joe Douglas or Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst should be in charge, Murphy punted on Tuesday.

Although neither party has set a timeframe for making a trade, a transaction would need to be finalised before the NFL draught if the Packers were to receive any immediate assistance for rookie quarterback Jordan Love.

NFL Insider Scott Pioloi was asked by Colleen Wolfe on “Good Morning Football” on Tuesday morning who he thinks has greater negotiating power in the upcoming trade talks.

The Green Bay Packers, according to Pioli, have the greatest clout in this circumstance. He said that the Packers had been in control of the situation since before Rodgers appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” and declared his intentions and that he was prepared to leave Green Bay.

“The Jets have said publicly they want Rodgers. They’re going to take him. Everywhere you turn here, it looks like he’s going. The Packers are sitting there every time someone says something and they’re thinking, okay, these two twos might be great, but I might be able to get more.”
