Georges Niang is a professional basketball player who currently plays for the Philadelphia 76ers in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was born on June 17, 1993, in Lawrence, Massachusetts, and grew up in nearby Methuen. Niang is of Lebanese descent and is known for his smooth shooting stroke, versatility, and high basketball IQ.

Niang attended Iowa State University, where he played basketball for four years and became one of the most decorated players in the school’s history. While at Iowa State, Niang was a two-time All-American and the Big 12 Conference Player of the Year in 2016. He also led the Cyclones to three NCAA Tournament appearances and scored over 2,000 career points, becoming the first player in Iowa State history to achieve that feat.

Despite his college success, Niang was not considered a top prospect in the 2016 NBA Draft and was selected in the second round with the 50th overall pick by the Indiana Pacers. He spent his rookie season bouncing between the Pacers and their G League affiliate, the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, before being waived by the team in the summer of 2017.
