Daniel Snyder Not Ready To Sell Commanders To Jeff Bezos: Is There A Beef?

Leading offers to purchase the Washington Commanders fell far short of the $6 billion limit set by owner Dan Snyder, and billionaire Jeff Bezos was forced to withdraw his offer.

According to sources familiar with the matter, an undisclosed bidder submitted an offer by this week’s deadline of around $5.5 billion, which was comparable to the sum provided by 76ers and Devils owner Josh Harris.

Snyder refused to let Bezos, the founder of Amazon, who is worth more than $100 billion, into the private auction, according to sources.

Daniel Snyder Not Ready To Sell Commanders To Jeff Bezos: Is There A Beef?

The speculations about the participation of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos are covering all the possible scenarios as Commanders owner Daniel Snyder continues to consider selling the team, unless he already has.

A.J. Perez of FrontOfficeSports.com writes that Bezos is still in the running to buy the team after two stories over the weekend said that Snyder wouldn’t sell it to him. Two unidentified individuals are cited in the paper, and one of them claimed that the allegations that Snyder won’t sell to Bezos are a ruse to induce Bezos to overpay.

He allegedly desires $7 billion. It is not met by the current proposals. According to the outlets releasing such figures, the bids have plummeted at varying distances.

While it’s evident that different sides are leaking different information to various newspapers, the true story on this topic is whether Snyder would sell and, if so, to whom. That comes as no surprise because parties involved in a deal of this kind will speak with certain media as requested by Snyder and Bezos, respectively.

The Washington Post is owned by Bezos, which complicates matters. The Post hasn’t said anything about the rumours that Snyder has frozen Bezos out, despite the fact that it inserts a disclaimer to that effect to every Bezos/Commanders piece. It’s getting more and more obvious, and Bezos’ newspaper must eventually confront it—even if just to refute it.

Bezos, who owns the Washington Post and has published many exposés suggesting that Snyder permitted sex harassment at the criticised NFL team, is the target of Snyder’s resentment.

The NFL placed pressure on Snyder to sell the franchise as a result of the revelations. But given that he didn’t obtain his desired price, Snyder could elect to keep control of Washington, which he acquired in 1999 for a then-record $800 million.

“He’s an ass and he may not want to give it up,” a source closely watching the sale said.

A decision on whether Snyder will finally walk away from the team he rooted for as a child is expected by the annual owners’ meeting that begins March 26, sources said.
