Former running back and current offensive coordinator (OC) Eric Bieniemy Mia Bieniemy. is the assistant head coach for the Washington Commanders in American football. He represented the Colorado Buffaloes in collegiate football. During their national championship season in 1990, he received unanimous All-American honors and came in third in the Heisman Award voting. In the second round of the 1991 NFL Draft, the San Diego Chargers selected Bieniemy.

He later played for the Cincinnati Bengals and Philadelphia Eagles, largely as a special teamer, before returning to Colorado in the early 2000s to complete his degree. After that, he was hired to coach the school’s running backs before going on to coach for the Minnesota Vikings and UCLA Bruins.

Before moving on to Kansas City Chiefs as the running backs coach in 2013, Bieniemy spent two seasons as Colorado’s offensive coordinator. He won Super Bowl LIV and Super Bowl LVII with the Chiefs before becoming their associate head coach and OC in 2023. He was promoted to OC in 2018 under head coach Andy Reid.

Eric Bieniemy Jr. Coaching Career

After returning to Colorado in 2001 to complete his education, Bieniemy coached UCLA’s running backs from 2003 to 2005 while also serving as the team’s recruiting coordinator in 2005. From 2001 to 2002, Bieniemy served as the running backs coach for the Buffaloes. Bieniemy accepted a job as the running backs coach for the Minnesota Vikings in the NFL after UCLA’s 2005 Sun Bowl triumph.

In 2010, Bieniemy received the status of assistant head coach. Andy Reid, the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, hired Bieniemy as the running backs coach in 2013. In order to replace Matt Nagy, who had been hired as the head coach of the Chicago Bears, Reid promoted Bieniemy to offensive coordinator in 2018. As the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 31-20 in Super Bowl LIV in 2019, Bieniemy won his first championship.

When the Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl LVII 38-35 over the Philadelphia Eagles, Bieniemy won his second championship with the Chiefs in 2022. Ron Rivera, the head coach of the Washington Commanders, hired Bieniemy in 2023 to serve as both their offensive coordinator and assistant head coach. He has full playcalling responsibilities, unlike his stint with the Chiefs.
