Bryce Young Trade: Colts Looking To Acquire The New Quarterback?

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay indicated that he certainly wouldn’t mind the team selecting Alabama’s Bryce Young in the NFL Draft.

Bryce Young Trade: Colts Looking To Acquire The New Quarterback?

The second NFL mock draught from ESPN’s Todd McShay features the Texans picking up potential stars at quarterback and wide receiver with picks No. 2 and No. 12, respectively. However, the analyst contends that the Indianapolis Colts trading up from No. 4 to No. 1 to select Alabama quarterback Bryce Young is one of the reasons why Houston will select Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud.

First trade of the 2023 NFL Draft sees the Indianapolis Colts move up and select their QB of the future: Alabama’s Bryce Young. One of the most polished QBs in recent memory, Young has a well-established skill set that the Colts would love to pair with Jonathan Taylor, giving new head coach Shane Steichen a young QB to mold and finally turn this offense into a unit capable of keeping up with their division.”

The Bears, who seem to be set at the quarterback position with Justin Fields, will reportedly do their “homework” on the signal-callers available in the NFL Draft.

But the most likely bet would be that Chicago trades the pick- and why not to a team like the Colts, whose owner expressed interest in Young.

At Shane Steichen’s opening press conference on Tuesday, Irsay was questioned about the potential for the Colts to move back from their first-round pick (No. 4 overall) in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Irsay replied and then casually added this information on Young.

“The Alabama guy doesn’t look bad, I’ll tell ya,” Irsay said, per ProFootballTalk.

Is this a smokescreen, perhaps? Undoubtedly, it is feasible. Irsay, however, has never shied away from speaking his thoughts or adopting a novel strategy, as seen by the hiring of Jeff Saturday as an interim coach. So, this may be a straightforward remark from him.

In light of this, it is not surprising that the Colts favour Young. The Heisman Trophy winner from 2021 had a successful two-year stint as Alabama’s starter, compiling 8,200 passing yards, 79 passing touchdowns, and only 12 interceptions. The only question about him is how his frail, 6-0, 194-pound physique will fare in the NFL.

The second problem with Young is unique to the Colts. With the No. 4 overall pick, they might not be able to get him. The Texans are anticipated to choose a quarterback with the No. 2 pick, and Young has regularly been mentioned in mock draughts in connection with them. That also includes the most recent from Vinnie Iyer of Sporting News.

Young may still be available, giving the Colts hope. If the Texans choose C.J. Stroud or even Will Levis over the Alabama product, Young may end up in their laps.

It’s too soon to determine if the Colts will pursue Young or even if he’ll be their top QB target.

But either way, Irsay knows that the Colts will have to develop a young quarterback to become competitive once again. He believes that regardless of the prospect with which the Colts end up, Steichen should be entrusted with that responsibility.
