Harrison Butker’s late game-winning field goal helped Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs overcome the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 to win their second Super Bowl in four years. With few seconds remaining, the Eagles attempted a Hail Mary, but quarterback Jalen Hurts’ pass was incomplete.

Mahomes had been selected the game’s MVP, Terry Bradshaw of Fox Sports announced to the audience as the stage was being put up on the field.

Mahomes thanked his teammates in his speech.

“I told y’all this week, there’s nothing that’s going to keep me off the football field, and I just want to shout out my teammates, man. We challenged each other. It took everybody to win this football game. So, shoutout my teammates, baby! We’re Super Bowl Champs! Let’s go!”

During the Chiefs’ Divisional Round game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Mahomes sprained his right ankle. He came back for the second half and directed the offence all the way down the field to score.

To add another layer to the dramatics, Mahomes went on to explain that he refused an injection to help ease his pain during halftime. He claimed that he only received a fresh tape-job on his ankle and played through the pain during the second half.

Since the victory marked Kansas City’s second Super Bowl victory in four years, Bradshaw referred to the Chiefs as a “dynasty,” but Mahomes was hesitant to use those exact terms.

“I’m not going to say dynasty yet; we’re not done!” Mahomes said. “So I’m not going to say dynasty yet! I like when you call it.”

Mahomes became the first player to win MVP of the NFL and of the Super Bowl in the same season since 1999.
