Lakers Star Dennis Schroder Was Aggressively Detained & Stopped By Police After A Car Chase

After the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night, Los Angeles police stopped the car carrying Dennis Schroder.

The “stop was initiated when the vehicle apparently had improper plates,” according to TMZ. A ticket for having the wrong licence plates was also granted, according to TMZ, though the site couldn’t confirm if it was delivered to Schroder or the operator of his Sprinter van.

Lakers Star Dennis Schroder Was Aggressively Detained & Stopped By Police After A Car Chase

Schroder Was in the back of the car with his Normatec, a piece of therapy equipment that aids in muscle recovery, and the point guard, who left the pavilion after the game, was driving with his friend Alex. He recounts that a police cruiser suddenly blocked their path, although neither of them seemed to mind much.

The situation began to worsen when the agents put on the blue lights and asked them to take the next exit to stop the vehicle.

“We saw blue lights and we thought they wanted to stop us. And then there was a voice saying, ‘Please take the next exit and stop,’” he said.

“Alex rolled down the window and told me ‘They’re stopping us.’ I said do what they say and then there will be no problems.” The officers asked both of them to get out of the vehicle and not make any strange movements.

“I slowly took off my Normatec so they don’t see anything strange and I put on some pants because I do the treatment without them,” says the German, who got out of the car barefoot.

According to reports, the police mistook or misinterpreted the number plate and charged the German with driving a stolen vehicle or having an altered licence plate. Because the player’s Cadillac was in working order, this was a mistake.

“There were about 30 cops, they were carrying guns… I looked like a criminal,” said Schroder, who had to be held up for just over half an hour at a gas station in the Californian city.

The agents then informed Schroder that the reason for his detention was connected to the alleged theft of a car, whose licence plate allegedly matched that of his Cadillac.

Dennis Schroder, a star point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers and one of their greatest players, found himself in a difficult situation just after leading his team to a deserved victory.

The German was stopped by California police despite having made 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists in the win over the San Antonio Spurs.
