Top Five Things You Did Not Know About Andrew Wiggins

The Golden State Warriors are an extremely well-run and well-coached team with some of the best players in the league playing for them. Which has resulted in the team winning four of the last eight NBA championships. In 2020, the team further bolstered their squad by adding Andrew Wiggins, a six-foot-seven-inch power forward from the Minnesota Timberwolves who has since helped the team in winning an NBA championship in 2020. 

Wiggins was the first overall pick in the 2014 draft and was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers. Shortly after the pick he was traded to the Timberwolves, where he played for six years before switching over to the Golden State Warriors. Today we take a look at five facts fans might not know about Andrew Wiggins.

Three-man trade

Shortly after being drafted by the Timberwolves, On August 23, a three-team trade was completed involving the Cavaliers, the Minnesota Timberwolves, and the Philadelphia 76ers. As part of the deal, Wiggins and Bennett were traded to the Wolves, along with Thaddeus Young, then of the Sixers. 

History Maker 

Andrew Wiggins

Wiggins made history at the 2014 draft when he was selected as the first overall pick. He became only the second Canadian in history to achieve this feat behind Anthony Bennett, who was picked first by the Cavaliers just one year prior. 

Idol Growing Up 

Growing up, Wiggins was a huge fan of the LA Lakers and their star man, Kobe Bryant. During his time in the NBA, Wiggins did get to play against his idol. 

Monster contract 

Last year, Andrew Wiggins and the Golden State Warriors signed a contract extension for four years worth a whopping $109 million. He is set to make $33 million this year alone. 

Record Setter 

On March 8, 2014, Andrew Wiggins scored 41 points against West Virginia, the most for a Big 12 Conference freshman since Michael Beasley scored 44 points against Baylor in 2008.
