Denver Broncos Star Russell Wilson Goes All-Out For Sean Payton After Dismal First Year
Although it looks like the Denver Broncos are moving rapidly to get the former New Orleans Saints head coach, the race to sign Sean Payton as head coach is officially underway. After a discouraging 51-14 defeat to the Los Angeles Rams, Nathaniel Hackett was fired by Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos. Since that time, the team has been searching extensively for a new head coach, with Sean Payton being their main priority.
If he were to say yes, Sean Payton would seem like the obvious choice given his success with Drew Brees. Colin Cowherd says that Wilson would likely welcome the former Saints coach with open arms.

Russell Wilson wants to work with Payton to raise his game to the level it was in Seattle after having a very dismal first season in Denver Broncos. Wilson and Hackett didn’t get along, but a seasoned coach like Payton can undoubtedly bring out the best in him. The death of Anton Walkes, a Charlotte FC soccer player, has postponed Payton’s scheduled interview with the Carolina Panthers for January 20.

Payton is known as a coach who promotes quarterbacks. It makes it reasonable that Russell Wilson would prefer a coach who has a track record of success.

The day after Christmas, Denver fired Nathaniel Hackett after the team’s offense seemed disjointed for a significant portion of the season. During Hackett’s tenure as head coach, the Denver Broncos actually finished dead last in scoring and tied for 21st yards per game.
