Sean Payton Discusses Potential Landing Spots In Candid Interview With His Daughter

Sean Payton, the former head coach of the New Orleans Saints, will probably be one of the most in-demand candidates now that the regular season is over.

Sean Payton Discusses Potential Landing Spots In Candid Interview With His Daughter

Meghan Payton, Sean Payton’s daughter, put her father on the spot when he recently joined her podcast “Payton’s Play” by asking him if he’ll be taking an NFL coaching position this offseason.

Sean Payton worked as an NFL commentator for Fox this season until retiring on January 26, 2022.

According to an interview with Payton that aired on Fox before Sunday’s games, the Denver Broncos were one of the first clubs to show interest in him. Although he had already spoken with Denver’s ownership, Payton, who had a 152-89 record in 15 seasons in New Orleans, said he could not officially interview anyplace until Jan. 17.

Sean Payton’s comeback to teaching is more difficult than just playing again. If another team wanted to hire him, they would have to pay the Saints, who now control his rights. That entails reaching a deal that is agreeable to Payton, his new team, and the Saints. The Saints will want to treat Payton fairly, but only at the proper cost.

Meghan went so far as to show her dad a chart with chances on which side he might choose. The Los Angeles Rams and Arizona Cardinals have the best chances of signing Sean, in her opinion. The New Orleans Saints, his old team, have the third-best odds.

Sean Payton can be heard saying “stop” as soon as Meghan starts previewing the visual, so it’s clear he wasn’t exactly eager to participate in the piece.

The Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Chargers shouldn’t have been included in the image, Sean swiftly pointed out, given that both teams advanced to the postseason. But Sean was a good sport about it. After declaring “you’re missing Carolina,” he went even further, which is notable given the rumours that the Panthers would be interested in hiring the former head coach.

Sean pointed out that the graphic was missing another box, and it wasn’t even an NFL team.

“The last box we’re missing is Fox,” Payton explained. “What’s the odds that he just goes back to Fox and pays for Meghan’s wedding next year and kinda put it on a credit card?”

The former coach’s comments about potentially returning to Fox align with what he had to say a week ago.

During the Fox NFL broadcast on January 10, Michael Strahan asked Sean Payton “1 to 10, what are the chances you’ll be here next year with us at Fox?” and Payton said “seven.”
