NFL World Is Roasting Al Michaels & Tony Dungy For Awful Chargers-Jaguars Call

The Chargers and Jaguars’ game on Saturday night featured one of the most thrilling comebacks in postseason history. But given the way Al Michaels and Tony Dungy called the game, you never would have thought it.

NFL World Is Roasting Al Michaels & Tony Dungy For Awful Chargers-Jaguars Call

The NBC broadcast team was very dry the entire time. Al Michaels and Dungy just weren’t able to get fired up about the Jaguars’ remarkable comeback.

If you didn’t watch the game, Trevor Lawrence’s four interceptions made the Jaguars appear hopeless in the early going. Despite being down 27-0 at the half, they produced an incredible comeback in the second half and eventually defeated the Chargers, 31-30, in the waning seconds.

Despite having just watched one of the greatest comebacks in NFL postseason history, Al Michaels and Dungy stayed unmoving as the Jaguars made the game-winning kick.

Here, for instance, is Michaels calling the Jaguars touchdown throw that tied the game at one with 5:26 remaining in the fourth quarter. Al experiences a momentary moment of excitement. Given the circumstances, the call scarcely seems appropriate at this time.

A Joey Bosa infraction immediately after that gave Jacksonville the ball on the one-yard line for the two-point conversion, resulting in a simple score. Michaels appeared to be reading from a printout as the Jaguars had now rallied from a 27-point deficit to get within a field goal.

As a result, the NFL community continues to bash the seasoned announcers for their game call.

“3rd biggest comeback in playoff history and legit Al Michaels and Tony Dungy may have taken a quick snooze during the final kick,” said Dave Portnoy. “I can’t even think about the game. I’m too furious with the announcing job. #jags

“never heard a more comatose call on a huge play, get these guys some coffee, this is just a completely LOUSY booth,” Warren Sharp said.

Fortunately, Sunday night’s broadcast of Al Michaels and Dungy on NBC won’t be repeated for the NFL community. The Cincinnati Bengals and the visiting Baltimore Ravens will play in a primetime game at Paycor Stadium, and Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth will be the announcers.
