Reports: Giants GM Joe Schoen, Players, Announcer Escape Mall Of America Shooting

The Mall of America was shut down during a shooting on Friday night that claimed the life of a 19-year-old. This lockdown included some Giants players, general manager Joe Schoen, and play-by-play announcer Bob Papa.

No players were reportedly near the shooting at the sizable Bloomington, Minnesota, retail centre, but a club representative did disclose that some players were there when the incident occurred.

“Safely out of the mall and back at the hotel,” Papa tweeted at 10:27 p.m. Friday. “Prayers to the victim.”

The frightened announcer had tweeted, “Scary here @mallofamerica,” about an hour before. assault in a mall. At #TwinCitiesGrill, there is a lockdown. At least one victim and two shooters.

According to authorities, a 19-year-old guy died in the event, and the mall was closed for more than an hour. The Nordstrom department store where the incident occurred remained closed despite the mall reopening on Saturday.

According to Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges, the event was sparked by a fight between two groups of young men late on Friday. He claimed that the number of participants ranged from five to nine and that they fled the mall right after following the gunshot at 7:50 p.m. According to Hodges, the entire episode lasted around 30 seconds.

The Giants are staying at a hotel close to the biggest mall in the country while in Minnesota for their game against the Vikings on Saturday.

When an officer from Bloomington who was close heard the bullets arrived, he discovered the victim on the ground, according to Hodges.

“Today in the mall, 16 officers were on duty. 16 officers,” said Hodges. “And they still choose to act in this way. I’m clueless.

By late Friday, no arrests had been made.

Now that Christmas is approaching, they will have to bury a loved one, Hodges said.

According to Hodges, a stray bullet grazed the coat sleeve of an uninvolved witness, but the person was unharmed.

Within 20 minutes of being informed about the situation, every member of the Giants travel group was located and was back at the hotel.

The victim’s name was not immediately made public by the police, but Hodges and Bloomington Mayor Tim Busse met with the victim’s family, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, which also noted that the state’s largest mall recently experienced gunfire in August.
