Fifa Investigating How Chef Salt Bae Got On To World Cup Final Pitch

FIFA is looking into Salt Bae’s pitch invasion following the World Cup championship.

After Argentina defeated France on Sunday, the famous chef, whose real name is Nusret Gokce, posted multiple pictures and videos of himself on the pitch at Lusail Stadium on social media.

In an effort to get a picture with Argentina captain Lionel Messi, Salt Bae was also seen grasping his arm twice.

Salt Bae forcibly interrupted a few times as Argentina’s newly minted-players took turns spending time with the illustrious trophy.

The FIFA World Cup trophy “may only be handled and held by a very exclusive group, which includes former winners of the FIFA World Cup and heads of state,” according to the organization’s website.

However, Salt Bae touched the trophy while it was in the hands of Angel Di Maria and even gave it a kiss when it was in Cristian Romero’s hands.

The hijacking of Argentina’s celebrations by Salt Bae quickly gained popularity on social media and made headlines in the sports press.

FIFA was contacted by BBC Sport for a statement regarding Salt Bae’s actions. According to a spokeswoman, FIFA has been investigating how people obtained unauthorised access to the field following the closing ceremony on December 18 at Lusail Stadium.

“The appropriate internal action will be taken.”

At the final, Salt Bae, who is well-known for theatrically salting meat slices, was sporting a lanyard bearing official FIFA certification.

But it’s clear that he was not given authority to enter the pitch area by this.

Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, is rumoured to be buddies with Salt Bae.

This week, Simon Jordan, a former executive of Crystal Palace, said the event “smells like cronyism.”
