“He was picked last for a reason” – NFL analyst aims dig at San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy

The San Francisco 49ers will lock horns with Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 14 this Sunday. However, Kyle Shanahan is without a reliable quarterback as Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo have been ruled out for the season with injuries.

This could pave the way for Brock Purdy to start at quarterback. However, Purdy was the 262nd and final pick at the NFL 2022 Draft and hence, received the Mr. Irrelevant tag. Since then, Prudy has been available on the team’s 53-man roster and is now the third-choice quarterback at San Francisco.

However, he made history for all the right reasons last weekend when he led the Niners to victory over the Miami Dolphins by throwing two touchdowns. Nonetheless, in his short NFL career, Prudy has been unable to impress NFL analyst Greg Cosell.

What did Ross Tucker say about Brock Purdy?

While speaking on the Ross Tucker podcast, Cosell claimed that there was a reason why the rookie’s skill set matched his draft pick. “Look, there’s a reason he (Purdy) was the last pick in the draft. Because he was a four-year starter at Iowa State, he did play 46 games as a starter, so he played a lot of college football,” he said.

Cosell added some praise for the quarterback and claimed, “But he’s one of those guys with average arm strength. He tends to be streaky with his accuracy. He does move well, and he’s not physically imposing. So, he was not seen as a good prospect.”

If Purdy does well against the Bucs, he will surely give Shanahan a think over possibly keeping him as the starting quarterback for the playoffs, if the Niners are able to make it to the postseason.
