San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan ‘regrets’ not signing QB Tom Brady in 2020

Kyle Shanahan’s San Francisco 49ers will face Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers in what promises to be a crunch encounter in Week 14 of the 2022-23 NFL season. However, the Niners’ head coach has been thoroughly impressed with how Brady has been performing this season.

In fact, Shanahan has also gone on to claim that he ‘regrets’ not signing the quarterback in 2020 after Brady left the New England Patriots. Brady eventually signed for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and led them to Super Bowl glory in his first year with the team.

What did Kyle Shanahan say about Tom Brady?

When asked about whether he felt Brady hasn’t been at his prime over the past few years, Shanahan quashed any rumors of it by saying, “The dude (Brady) looks the exact same, as he did that year [in 2020]. He does when he comes off injuries, and I think he’s playing as good now and throwing the ball as well now as I’ve seen anybody ever do it.”

The 42-year-old head coach is also younger than Brady, who is 45. But Shanahan explained his decision to pass on Brady when he was offered to San Francisco as a free agent. “He plays the position better than anyone ever, and he’s definitely the GOAT from what I’ve seen, but I don’t say that just because he has won Super Bowls,”

Brady and the Bucs are currently at the top of the NFC South division with six wins and six defeats so far in the NFL season. Meanwhile, the 49ers are at the summit of the NFC West with eight wins and four losses. Their matchup on Sunday is bound to be an interesting one. Each team will be aiming to solidify its position for the playoffs.
