He received the USBWA National Freshman of the Year Award and was recognized as an All-American at the end of his first season. His father was an NBA player for the Sacramento Kings, Philadelphia 76ers, and New Jersey Nets for five seasons before playing professionally in Spain, Turkey, Iran, and Puerto Rico.
