Boston Celtics Legend Paul Pierce’ Makes Another Huge Statement Jayson Tatum and Kevin Durant Comparison
Paul Pierce, who played for the Boston Celtics from 1998 to 2013, obviously bleeds green. Pierce, who has been retired since the 2016–17 season, continues to show his affection for the group he helped win the title in 2008. With Jayson Tatum at the helm, the Celtics are among the greatest teams in the NBA right now, and for good reason: Tatum has developed into one of the league’s top players. Paul Pierce, a former NBA player, is renowned for his outrageous opinions, particularly when it comes to the Miami Heat.
On his latest podcast with Kevin Garnett, Pierce made yet another audacious assertion. When the issue of Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum came up, Piece asserted that Jayson Tatum was a superior player to Kevin Durant of the Brooklyn Nets.
Paul Pierce feels Jayson Tatum is a better player than Kevin Durant
Paul Pierce agreed after the Boston Celtics led the Brooklyn Nets 3-0 in the opening round of the 2017 playoffs. And around seven and a half months later, Pierce is still of the same opinion, particularly given that the Celtics currently have the best record in the league while the Nets have only recently surpassed the .500 mark.
“I think after last season’s playoffs, [Jayson Tatum] surpassed [Kevin] Durant as far as a better player in the NBA today. I said this last year. I’m taking Tatum over KD after last season’s playoffs. I think him going against Kevin Durant was like a passing of the torch.”

“I’m not taking none of that from KD. KD’s still one of the greatest ever players. He’s still one of the best in the game. I just think Tatum today has passed KD,” Pierce said.
Pierce supported his assertion by pointing to Jayson Tatum’s exploits during the Celtics’ 4-0 first-round playoff victory over KD’s Brooklyn Nets. Tatum shot on a 46/42/87 split for an average of 29.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game.
During the postseason series, Durant wasn’t as productive. It’s difficult to discount him as one of the league’s top players, though. He keeps up his excellent caliber of performance even at age 34.
