World Cup Rules 2022: Squad Changing On Injury Elaborated!

There are so many games in a World Cup, injuries will always be an unavoidable side effect. What are the World Cup Rules that come in force in these situations?

We have already witnessed one catastrophic injury, a few concussions, and a scare for England’s captain after just a few days of play in Qatar.

Just 13 minutes into France’s victory over Australia, Lucas Hernandez’s World Cup and likely season came to an abrupt stop. It was established that the Bayern Munich defender seriously damaged his knee during the Socceroos’ opening goal.

One of the greatest concerns for players and coaches is injuries, particularly with just five days until the Qatar 2022 World Cup. Being fit at this time is essential for them because the event is a significant opportunity for many players and is only held once every four years. Key players, however, might sustain injuries at any time, especially during the World Cup.

Can Teams Replace Injured Players? World Cup Rules Explained!

In accordance with Article 24, paragraph 3 of the FIFA rules for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, teams may replace players who are unable to compete due to injury or serious sickness up to 24 hours prior to their first World Cup match.

Due to the fact that the World Cup begins on November 20, the players’ obligations to their clubs won’t typically complete until a week prior. As a result, players may sustain injuries with their clubs before joining the national squad.

Up until they join the traveling party, the 26 players will be the subject of coaches’ intense anticipation.

The regulations further provide that replacements are not need to be chosen from the first 55-man provisional lists from which 26-man teams have to be chosen.

The substitute player must also display the injured player’s number on his jersey.

Finally, FIFA mandates that the Medical Committee must declare that the player is ineligible to compete due to their injury.

Players hurt during the World Cup cannot be replaced once a side has started its competition, but Qatar’s teams have been expanded to 26 players.

In other words, as opposed to previous World Cups, the final list has changed from 23 players to between 23 and 26, giving coaches more leeway and breathing room in the event that injuries arise during the competition.
