“Dedicated to Bettering Himself”: Massive Update on the Return of Kyrie Irving; Might Play on Sunday
Even though Kyrie Irving will miss his eighth straight game on Thursday against the Portland Trail Blazers, his suspension is almost over. The team suspended Irving on November 3 for using his Twitter account to promote an antisemitic movie. Fans and players are divided about Irving’s predicament. Some people think Kyrie Irving shouldn’t have been suspended. Some people think the Nets made the correct choice.
Kyrie Irving was initially punished by the Nets for five games, but there were reportedly extra requirements that extended his absence. Irving has missed seven games thus far, and he also won’t play against the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday.
Kyrie Irving could be back for the Nets on Sunday
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Kyrie Irving is almost done with his ban from the Brooklyn Nets and might play as soon as Sunday’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies.

“Kyrie is continuing his journey of dialogue and education,” National Basketball Players Association executive director told ESPN. “He has been grappling with the full weight of the impact of his voice and actions, particularly in the Jewish community. Kyrie rejects antisemitism in any form, and he’s dedicated to bettering himself and increasing his level of understanding. He plans to continue this journey well into the future to ensure that his words and actions align with his pursuit of truth and knowledge.”
As Adam Silver said, Kyrie Irving "publicizing" an antisemitic video has done "enormous damage" to NBA as well as Nets and Irving. That cannot be forgotten. It cannot be swept aside with a "process" or a Stop Jewish Hate video or an Irving press conference. More must be done.

Irving experienced further repercussions in addition to the suspension and the resulting loss of pay. A day later, Nike declared that it was severing its lucrative alliance with Irving and postponing the launch of the Kyrie 8 sneaker. Phil Knight, a co-founder of Nike, has recently expressed skepticism about the future of the partnership.
