Report: Veteran Sports Journalist Bill Plaschke Says ‘Out Of Cash Raiders Can’t Afford To Fire Coach Josh McDaniels’

Numerous factors may have contributed to Josh McDaniels receiving the dreaded vote of confidence.

The Raiders have a dismal 2-7 record to date, which is the second-worst record in the NFL. McDaniels is in the first year of a four-year contract with the organisation. Mark Davis, the owner, did, however, give the head coach his support earlier this week.

Out Of Cash Raiders Can’t Afford To Fire Coach Josh McDaniels

Veteran sports journalist Bill Plaschke thinks he understands the reason. Tuesday’s “Around the Horn” segment of ESPN featured Plaschke discussing McDaniels’ job security and the organisation’s financial situation.

“I’m saying right now: Josh McDaniels will be the coach this year and next year,” Plaschke said. “Raiders don’t have the money to fire him, to pay him off. They’re cash-poor.

It’s not surprising that the Raiders are short on cash now that Jon Gruden has left the organisation. In 2018, the former head coach agreed to a 10-year contract worth approximately $100 million. At the time of his resignation, the team still owed him almost $40 million in guaranteed money, but the two parties ultimately came to an undisclosed agreement.

Having acquired standout wide receiver Davante Adams through a trade, Josh McDaniels’ Raiders opened the 2022 NFL season with high hopes. They have already surpassed their 2021 total with seven losses, three of which were caused by blown leads of 17 points or more.

Without McDaniels, the Patriots have managed to keep a winning record, not because of the offence but instead in spite of it. In terms of overall yards per game, New England is placed 26th. With a QBR ranking of 28, quarterback Mac Jones has thrown four touchdowns versus seven interceptions.
