He guided his club to the AAA playoff semifinals as a senior. He participated in the Carolinas Shrine Bowl and was named the Class AAA Offensive Player of the Year by High School Sports Report. The 247 aggregate gave Samuel a three-star rating as a prospect. The San Francisco 49ers selected Samuel in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft (36th overall). On July 25, 2019, he committed to the 49ers for four years.
