Mattress Mack Wins A Record-Breaking $75 Million On World Series Bets On The Astros

The owner of Gallery Furniture, Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale, who is well-known in Houston for his extravagant advertising and backing of neighbourhood teams, has recently gained some notoriety nationwide for his huge wagers on sporting events.

Late Saturday night, he made sports betting history.

Mattress Mack Wins A Record-Breaking $75 Million On World Series Bets On The Astros

With average odds of 7.5-to-1, McIngvale wagered a total of $10 million at multiple bookmakers on the Houston Astros to win the World Series. In Game 6 of the Fall Classic, the team completed the milestone by defeating the Philadelphia Phillies 4- 1. McIngvale received an estimated $75 million in winnings from the game, making it the biggest legal sports betting payout in American history.

McIngvale had to bet outside of Texas because it is forbidden to wager on sports there. In May, he placed one $3 million wager while parked in front of a Subway restaurant in Louisiana, close across the Texas border.

He bet $10 million throughout the year spread out via six different sportsbooks.

First, McIngvale wagered $3 million on the Astros to win the World Series at Caesars on 10/1 and $1 million at WynBet.

In July, he bet $2 million at BetMGM at 5/1, $2 million at Barstool at +533 and $1 million each at Unibet and Betfred, also at 5/1.

“Well, first of all, I’m so happy the Astros won the World Series,” McIngvale said in a video posted to the Caesars Twitter account. “I won $30 million. What am I going to do? I’m going to get on an aeroplane and fly to a Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, and get all that money and say, ‘Hail Caesar.”

As part of his “If the Astros win, you win” deal, McIngvale offers reimbursements to consumers who spent more than $3,000 at his store over the season, so he won’t be keeping all of the money for himself.

The impact of the hit they had to absorb doesn’t seem to worry the corporation all that much.

“What can we say? According to a statement from Ken Fuchs, head of sports at Caesars Sportsbook, “We just wrote the largest cheque in sports betting history to Mattress Mack for $30,000,000.” Would we repeat everything? Oh, yes. We’re happy of how we worked together to help first responders and veterans in Houston, Philadelphia, and Atlantic City, even though Mack may have won this match on the field.
