Court Documents Confirm Former Chief’s Coach Britt Reid Was Drinking At Team Facility Right Before The DWI Crash

Britt Reid, the son of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and a former assistant coach for the team, pleaded guilty to felony DWI last month in a courtroom in downtown Kansas City. Britt’s actions led to an accident that seriously injured several people, most notably 5-year-old Ariel Young, who still faces challenges in her recovery.

In the course of the proceedings, Reid stood and, under oath, responding to inquiries from his lawyer J.R. Hobbs, including, for the first time in the public eye, queries concerning his location soon before the collision. Specifically at the Chiefs football stadium.

Britt Reid Was Drunk Driving Prior To The DWI Crash

Prior to driving while inebriated last February, former Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid was at the team’s facilities when his Dodge Ram pickup truck collided with two automobiles, seriously wounding 5-year-old Ariel Young.

“On February 4th, 2021, were you present at Arrowhead Stadium?” Hobbs asked.

“Yes, sir,” Reid answered.

“Was there a point in time when you began driving home around 9 p.m.?” Hobbs asked.

“Yes,” Reid answered.

Britt Reid left Arrowhead shortly after, driving his Dodge Ram truck 84 mph down an Interstate 435 on-ramp, where he crashed into two vehicles parked in the breakdown lane. Reid had a blood alcohol level of.113. Young was in the backseat of one of the cars, and her mother had driven over to assist a family member who was having automobile difficulty. Even though she has healed sufficiently to return to school after spending weeks in a coma, she is likely to be affected for the rest of her life.

According to family attorney Tom Porto, the Chiefs struck a contract with Young’s family last year to offer medical attention as well as “long-term financial stability.”

After the crash, Reid was taken to the hospital, and the team quickly fired him. The 37-year-old was anticipated to receive a four-year prison term on Friday. The sentence was moved to Tuesday due to a schedule conflict. Young’s family is not happy with what they consider to be a light sentence and is likely to ask the judge for a longer one.

The criminal case will conclude with the punishment, but Reid’s admission that he was at the Chiefs facility next to Arrowhead Stadium before the collision raises an important issue that neither the Chiefs nor the NFL seems eager to address.

The Chiefs first claimed to be “in the midst of gathering information,” but they have since made no further remarks on what that process comprised or what, if anything, was discovered.

The NFL initially said that the “situation would be investigated in accordance with its personal conduct policy.” However, nothing regarding the review of a coach who had been drinking at work prior to a terrible occurrence was made public, despite the fact that such investigations into player behaviour frequently are.
