Los Angeles Rams, Who are Heavily Linked With Odell Beckham Jr, Are Heading Towards Another Potential WR Reunion

Before next Tuesday’s trade deadline, the Los Angeles Rams might strengthen their receiving group. A former Rams receiver could be coming back to the group. not the one you imagine, though. In the midst of the defending Super Bowl winners’ continued interest in Odell Beckham Jr., there has been speculation in certain league circles that former Rams (as well as Saints and Patriots) receiver Brandin Cooks may be returning to Los Angeles.

ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio claims that the Rams are considering veteran wide receiver Brandin Cooks. Currently, Cooks plays for the Houston Texans. He has a contract that runs until the 2024 campaign. Cooks was a member of the Rams’ roster from 2018 to 2019. The quick receiver hauled in 122 catches for 1,787 yards and seven touchdowns.

Los Angeles Rams interested in signing Brandin Cooks

Mike Florio reported: “The Texans have been trying to trade Cooks. As explained last night, his $18 million fully guaranteed salary has become an impediment. As one league source has suggested, Cooks could be willing to soften the guarantee for 2023 in order to escape the Texans and return to the Rams.”

A speed receiver would presumably help the Rams “open up” their attack. That would undoubtedly be checked by cooks. It reminds of the discussions between the Browns and Odell Beckham, Jr. that took place in November of last year. When he wasn’t sold before the deadline, Beckham finally agreed to forgo a significant portion of his otherwise guaranteed pay for the remainder of 2021 in order to become a free agent.

Due to Cooks’ contract, a trade between the Rams and Texans may be challenging to complete. But we can’t rule out the possibility. Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET is the deadline for the Rams to complete a deal.
