Aaron Judge Receives Booes At Yankee Stadium After 4-Strikeout Game

Aaron Judge Receives Booes At Yankee Stadium

Even though Aaron Judge set an American League record with 62 home runs during the regular season, Friday’s Yankee Stadium crowd didn’t really care about that.

Game 2 of the ALDS saw the Yankees fall to the Cleveland Guardians 4-2; Cleveland will now host Game 3 to decide the series. Judge, who was the talk of baseball a week ago, had a night where he went 0-for-5 and posted a golden sombrero with four strikeouts.

After going 0 for 3 with three strikeouts and a walk in Game 1, Judge turned in a strong performance. Additionally, according to ESPN, it was his fourth postseason game in a row with four strikeouts, the most of any player in MLB history.

After his final strikeout against Guardians reliever Trevor Stephan, Judge heard a few boos as he made his way back to the bench. Previously, he had only heard boos from pitchers who had walked him the previous month. When questioned about the treatment following the game, he said he had to improve.

“It’s the Bronx, man,’’ said manager Aaron Boone, after the Cleveland Guardians evened the best-of-five AL Division Series with a 4-2, 10-inning win at Yankee Stadium.

“This isn’t anything new to us,’’ Judge said as the series moves to Cleveland for Games 3 and 4 this weekend, with momentum suddenly shifted toward Lake Erie.

Aaron Judge: 0-for-5

Perhaps 62 home runs in the regular season don’t give you as much patience in October as you might think.

The 47,535 spectators who witnessed Emmanuel Clase, the AL’s best closer, record the final seven outs, though, booed less overtly and more in frustration. Starting pitcher Shane Bieber struck out Judge three times, and he was also one of Trevor Stephan’s four strikeout victims in four hitters faced.

With the crowd up and cheering in the ninth, Clase got Judge on a routine groundout. The key, according to Judge, is that I need to play better. As a leadoff hitter, in particular, “I’ve got to get on base, make something happen.”
