“We Don’t Look at Color”- Todd Bowles Bashes Woke Media for Bringing up Race as He Prepares to Face Mike Tomlin

There are currently only four black head coaches in the NFL. Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Todd Bowles, Mike Tomlin of the Steelers, Lovie Smith of the Houston Texans and Steve Wilks of the Carolina Panthers. This week, the Bucs take on the Steelers which means that Bowles and Tomlin will go head to head which has been a hot topic of contention in the build up to the game.

However, head coach Todd Bowles has bashed the media for making it all about race. He said, “I have a very good relationship with Tomlin. We don’t look at what color we are when we coach against each other. We just know each other. I have a lot of very good white friends that coach in this league as well and I don’t think it’s a big deal as far as us coaching against each other. I think it’s normal. Wilks got an opportunity to do a good job; hopefully he does it. We coach ball. We don’t look at color.”

Bowles continued, “Well, when you say ‘you guys’ and ‘look like them’ and ‘grow up like them,’ that means that we’re oddballs to begin with. I think the minute you guys stop making a big deal about it, everybody else will as well.”

A closer look at Todd Bowles and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers so far this season

The Bucs had a huge boost at the start of the season after Tom Brady cut short his retirement and decided to return to the gridiron once again. The Bucs started their season in Dallas with a 19-3 win over the Cowboys. They then won their second game on the trot by defeating the Saints 20-10. However, after that the Bucs lost two games in succession against the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Most recently, the Bucs bounced back into the win column with a 21-15 win over the Atlanta Falcons. They will be aiming to continue their win streak this weekend as they take on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
