UFC and Meta Sign a Ground-Breaking Deal to Host Fights in Virtual Reality
Over the years, the UFC has established itself as the world leader in MMA promotion. With record-breaking PPV figures and the biggest stars in the sport, the UFC has consolidated its position as the undisputed top dog. However, as the saying goes, getting to the top is easy, but staying there is difficult.
This is something that Dana White and his team are aware of, which is why they’re constantly coming up with new ideas and partnerships to make sure that the UFC stays ahead of its competition.

The most recent partnership announcement between the UFC and META (Formerly Facebook) is just another example of the same. According to the announcement, UFC Fight Pass will offer live and on-demand MMA events in virtual reality through Meta’s Horizon Worlds app, which runs through Oculus devices like the Meta Quest 2 headset. Friday’s LFA 144, which streams live on UFC Fight Pass, will be the first combat sports event to make its way to the Horizon Worlds app

The official statement released said, “We are excited to offer an unprecedented level of engagement for Fight Pass subscribers and MMA fans around the world by producing a live MMA event in virtual reality,” Crowley Sullivan, Fight Pass vice president and general manager stated. With Meta providing the VR platform and YBVR lending their production expertise, we’re confident this will be a great experience for fight fans.”

The buzz around Zuckerberg started when it was announced that UFC Fight Night 211 would be shut off for both fans as well as media. Mackenzie Dern then revealed that Zuckerberg had rented out the arena to view fights which Dana White categorically denied.
