Watch: George Springer Collided With Bo Bichette, Carted Off Field
After colliding with shortstop Bo Bichette in the AL Wild Card, Blue Jays star outfielder George Springer was hoisted off the field and taken to the medical tent.
In the eighth inning of the Toronto Blue Jays’ postseason matchup against the Seattle Mariners on Saturday, centre fielder George Springer collided with shortstop Bo Bichette and had to be carried off the field.
J.P. Crawford misplayed the ball into shallow centre field with two out and the bases loaded. The ball fell as Springer and Bichette clashed despite their aggressive pursuit of it. The double tied the game at nine with three runs scored.

Bichette’s right arm appeared to have struck Springer in the forehead. Bichette was examined by a trainer and then stood up rather soon, continuing to play. As the cart was being pushed into the field, Springer was assisted in standing up.
As the cart departed the field, 33-year-old four-time All-Star Springer urged the cheering fans.

Springer struck – 267 this season with 25 home runs, 76 RBIs, and 14 steals. In the eighth inning of the first playoff game, a pitch struck him on the left wrist. He was in pain when he fell, yet he continued to play.

When Springer was removed from the field, he was able to sit up by himself, which is encouraging. However, if the Blue Jays win Game 2 after dropping Game 1, the injury’s implications suggest that he might be out for the remainder of the campaign.
The fact that the ball dropped on that play and cleared the bases, and tied the game between Toronto and Seattle just made matters worse. In the top of the ninth, the Mariners then took the lead.
