Reporters Question Bill Belichick On Matt Patricia’s Play-Calling

Sunday against the Detroit Lions, Bailey Zappe will likely be throwing the passes. And Bill Belichick will be calling the shots. When it comes to the state of the New England Patriots offence, inquiring minds want to know.

Though the status of the team’s quarterbacks tops the list of pressing concerns among the fanbase, members of the media continue to probe into the identity of the Patriot’s offensive play-caller.

Patricia has been the most noteworthy regular suspect in the lineup through four games in 2022.

Bill Belichick Is Sick Of Questions

As the New England assistant coach prepares to face the Detroit Lions, the team he formerly coached, the head coach became irritated with reporters for inquiring about Matt Patricia’s job performance as the apparent offensive play-caller on Friday.

After being asked how he would evaluate Patricia’s play-calling through the first four weeks of the season, Belichick replied, “I wouldn’t characterize it the way you did,” before moving on to talk more broadly about the offence.

Belichick responded, “Call him anything you want,” when questioned about whether or not Patricia should be referred to in the media as the play-caller.

After complaining that the media had “talked about it ad infinitum” and once more accepting responsibility for the entire operation, he continued to refuse to say who was calling plays for the Patriots. Belichick even advised journalists to “take better notes” in order to avoid having to ask the same questions repeatedly.

But Belichick reiterated on Friday, as he has numerous times over the past few months, that the ‘buck’ really does stop at his desk.

When asked about his role in calling offensive plays, Belichick informed reporters, “I’m accountable for everything.” “I’ve said it since the beginning, and nothing has changed. I am accountable for all calls made on the field.

Patricia is not precisely the novice as depicted by the dominant media narrative, despite the fact that he may not be an offensive specialist. His prior work as a defensive coordinator and the head coach has given him a unique perspective on how to instruct the fundamentals of all facets of the game.

Despite some questionable moments in situational plays, Patricia has called a solid over-game plan in 2022, incorporating a balance of gap plays with outside zone runs to facilitate New England’s passing game.
