Jerry Jones Entertains Cowboys QB Controversy
Jerry Jones didn’t need to be reminded.
If Cooper Rush keeps winning like he did Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals, there may be a quarterback dispute, but the Dallas Cowboys club owner and general manager weren’t initially questioned about it. Additionally, he hadn’t been questioned about Dak Prescott, the franchise quarterback, recovering from a thumb fracture in his throwing hand. He wasn’t even supposed to meet with the media on Thursday.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones entertained idea Cooper Rush could play well enough, team could win enough to force decision at QB when Dak Prescott able to return. “Wouldn’t it be something if you had a dilemma as to which way to go?” You’d want that controversy? “Of course I would.” pic.twitter.com/oSXzHAMabk

However, Jones paused for a chat in the team offices’ hallway.
Jerry Jones Entertains the Controversy
Jerry Jones spoke to local media representatives on Thursday about the Dallas Cowboys upcoming game, a road matchup against the New York Giants that will be broadcast on Monday Night Football.
Because, well, Cowboys, there’s a good chance that this will be one of the most watched MNF games in recent memory.
The Cowboys are currently in a unique situation with Cooper Rush starting as a quarterback while Dak Prescott heals from a fractured thumb, Jerry said at his Thursday media appearance.
On Thursday, he responded, “Of course, I would. Of course, it means we would have prevailed. If he enters and performs at a level comparable to Prescott’s? If Rush performed that admirably in the upcoming games? To get that, I would trek to New York.

Would he honestly think about benching a healthy Prescott? Jones finally applied a small amount of the brakes and added, “I don’t want to go too much in the weeds with that.
The Cowboys’ status as the most valuable team in sports is definitely attributed to headlines like these, with Jones routinely addressing at least three times every week throughout the NFL season on top of impromptu and head-turning remarks like these.

What Happened With Prescott
On offence, the Cowboys struggled in their season-opening defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 11. Prescott had an uncommonly bad night, completing just 14 of 29 passes (48.3%) for 134 yards and an interception. When Tampa Bay outside linebacker Shaquil Barrett hit Prescott’s throwing hand during the third quarter of the game, Prescott sustained a fracture near the joint of his thumb. He made an effort to play through the pain before discovering he couldn’t hold the ball.
The following day, Prescott had surgery, with a four to six-week recuperation period anticipated. The Cowboys decided against placing him on injured reserve because they wanted him to play, if not just practice, before the four-week mark.

Rush As Replacement
Rush led Dallas to its second victory in as many starts against the Bengals on Sunday (he also won at Minnesota last October). Rush had a completion percentage of 19 out of 31 for 235 yards and a score.
Prescott’s 53-33 career record and $40 million per year contract, though, highlight the distinction between him and Rush, an undrafted free agent from 2017, who has completed 94 fewer NFL passes than Prescott while also scoring fewer touchdowns (143).
