Cooper Rush Shares His Thoughts After Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Says He Would Welcome Quarterback Controversy This Season
The Cowboys endured a miserable start to their opening game week of the 2022 NFL season as they succumbed to a 19-3 loss against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Just when it seemed things could not get any worse, Cowboys’ franchise quarterback Dak Prescott was ruled out for a few weeks thanks to an injury to his thumb that would require surgery. This meant that Cooper Rush had to step in to take the role of quarterback for the Cowboys.
Rush impressed in his very first game in charge and secured a 20-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Rush finished the game with 19 of 31 passes for 231 yards and distributed his offense across five different receivers and did not rely solely on CeeDee Lamb.

Following the win, owner Jerry Jones shared his thoughts on the replacement quarterback and a potential quarterback drama and whether he would welcome it. He said, “Of course I would. Of course, that means we’ve won. If he comes in and plays as well as Prescott plays—if Rush played that well over these next games ahead, I’d walk to New York to get that.”
When Rush was asked about his thoughts on Jones’ comments, he said, “I think he just wants to win games and that’s what we all want to do.”
Cooper Rush is set to take on the New York Giants in his second game in charge
The Giants need to find a way to get to Cooper Rush and rattle him early on in order to prevent the likes of CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup (if he plays), Ezekiel Elliott, and Tony Pollard from breaking big plays.

With an injury to Leonard Williams, the Giants will be without their top three pass rushers this season. Additionally, outside of LT Andrew Thomas, the Giants’ offside lines can most charitably be described as inconsistent. This is not something that will bode well for the Giants since Micah Parsons will be in town this weekend. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top in this fixture since both teams are not playing at 100%.
