Matt Ryan To be Benched, Coach Reich be Fired by Colts?

Indianapolis Colts Continue To Struggle

As the 2022 NFL season gets underway, the Indianapolis Colts are still having trouble.

The team had Super Bowl aspirations going into the year after removing Carson Wentz and replacing him with Matt Ryan, a decision they may now be regretting. Hopes were high with Ryan taking over at quarterback and the return of talented players like Michael Pittman and Jonathan Taylor.

Since then, reality has slammed them back into place.

Indianapolis performed poorly in the first game, which resulted in a 20-20 tie with the Texans. This comes after the first three quarters saw a 20-3 deficit. The Colts rallied with 17 points in the fourth quarter, but they are already in a rut heading into Week 2.

A 17-0 lead for the Jacksonville Jaguars has been quickly established thanks to some outstanding play by the quarterback Trevor Lawrence. This Jaguars team has a combined record of 4-29 over the previous two seasons.

In the first half, the Colts acquired a total of three first downs, and Matt Ryan threw his second interception of the year. Social media is in a rage because of that terrible beginning.

Why Should Matt Ryan be worried?

Ryan’s Colts debut had a range of results. The Colts were unable to defeat the Texans despite the fact that he completed 64% of his throws for 352 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. After a scoreless overtime period, the AFC South rivals were tied 20-20.

It goes without saying that this was a sad outcome for Indianapolis, considering the Colts defeated the Texans twice in the previous season, 31-0 and 31-3. Having said that, Ryan did assist the Colts in scoring 17 points in the fourth quarter, saving Indianapolis from suffering its eighth straight Week 1 defeat.

That will prevent his blue and white debut from being an abject catastrophe. However, it was still underwhelming, especially when compared to Ryan’s replacement, Wentz.

Is Coach Frank Reich On A Hot Seat?

It was already terrible to start the Texans game slowly. It’s almost unforgivable that the Colts didn’t even try to compete against the Jaguars when they were trying to change some questionable series history and atone for a poor Week 1 performance. Instead, in Jacksonville, they merely went through the motions.

Reich is to blame for his lack of drive and readiness. The organization had to make the appropriate changes to its offensive and defensive philosophy as a result of losing its two top coordinators, Nick Sirianni (Eagles) and Matt Eberflus, in the previous two offseasons. The constant turnover at QB following Andrew Luck’s retirement hasn’t helped either.

The bad Colts start has been largely due to the joint actions of Ryan and Reich. Expect the significant move or moves to occur if it appears to be more of a trend than an accident.
