NFL Insider Provides a Health Update on Justin Herbert After a Brutal Tackle by Mike Danna

The Los Angeles Chargers started off their season with a brilliant performance against the Raiders. Justin Herbert led his men to a 24-19 win over Derek Carr and his men. However, in the second game week of this season, the Chargers faced the wrath of Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs and it was mainly Herbert that bore the brunt of it.

Against the Chiefs, Herbert was taken off on a stretcher as he appeared to have sustained an injury to his midsection. With 5:09 remaining in Thursday night’s 27-24 loss, Herbert took a hit from Chiefs defensive end Mike Danna that left him lying on the field for an extended period. This forced the Oregon man to miss one play and in the very first play on his return, he was immediately crushed between Chiefs pass-rushers Frank Clark and George Karlaftis.

Appearing on the Pat McAfee show, NFL insider Ian Rapoport provided an update on Herbert and his health. He said, “The problem is, we saw a couple of instances last year where a guy got hit in the ribs, he would have X-rays, the X-rays would be negative, but then we get the CT scan and they would show tiny breaks…I would say the thought is that Justin Herbert’s okay but we’ll see what these tests show in a couple of hours.”

Justin Herbert to miss out on games?

The game against the Chiefs was a pretty rough one for the Chargers and in particular Herbert. The Chiefs sacked Herbert twice and recorded seven quarterback hits. The Chargers’ offensive line also took a few hits as center Corey Linsley and right tackle Trey Pipkins are expected to miss the next game week after picking up injuries against the Chiefs.

Herbert had a pretty good game against Kansas. He finished the game with 334 yards passing and three touchdowns. But he also threw a pass that was intercepted and turned into a 99-yard touchdown. At this point in time, it is expected that Herbert will start the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars next weekend at the SoFi stadium. However, we will keep you updated if there are any developments on this front.
