Three Times When LeBron James Came Very Close to the ‘Unanimous MVP’ Tag Owned by Stephen Curry

The Most Valuable Player title, probably the most coveted individual honor a player in the NBA can get, is currently held by Stephen Curry. It’s not that no one has even come close to accomplishing the feat, though. In truth, on several occasions, someone did: James Lebron.

Stephen Curry created history in 2016 when the Warriors won the NBA title. He was not only the first individual to win the Most Valuable Player award by unanimous vote but also earned it for the second consecutive year.

130 members of the media cast ballots for the NBA MVP, and fans also had the opportunity to vote online. Everyone was asked to choose their top five MVP candidates in order of preference, starting with Steph Curry receiving the highest rating across all 131 votes.

In a given year, the NBA MVP receives about 80% of the first-place MVP votes. A respected group of Canadian and American sportswriters and broadcasters chooses the award winner. As a result, the question of whether the media’s portrayal of a player is important in determining the victor is frequently raised.

LeBron James received 120 of 121 first-place votes for the 2013 MVP. LeBron won the MVP award for the first time in 2009. LeBron nearly made history when he first had the actual cutlery in his hands. On his first try, Bron received 96.9% of the MVP votes for first place.

The very following season, Bron improved upon himself. This time, LeBron James won the Maurice Podoloff trophy and 98% of the first-place MVP votes. Another almost-perfect campaign.
