Before working with defensive linemen and special teams at Division III St. in 2016, Brandon started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Northern Illinois from 2006 to 2008. In 2017, Staley was signed by the Chicago Bears to teach their outside linebackers.

Staley rejoined Vic Fangio as head coach of the Denver Broncos on January 15, 2019, when he was hired as their outside linebackers coach. Staley was appointed the Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator on January 16, 2020.
Staley was appointed the Los Angeles Chargers head coach on January 17, 2021. Staley made his regular-season head coaching debut against Washington on September 12, 2021, and the Chargers won 20-16.
