“That’s Ultimately What Cost Us”- Marcus Freeman Shares His Thoughts on His Team’s Biggest Weakness Ahead of a New Season
We’re into September and that means college football season is back in action. Last year, the Georgia Bulldogs beat the Alabama Crimson Tide in the final to secure their first title since 2019. This year, a number of teams look capable of winning the championship, but one team that stands out, in particular, are the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football led by their new coach Marcus Freeman.
Freeman has generated a lot of buzz around the Fighting Irish and his approach to football. Fans are excited for the first time in a very long time about their team and the potential they have under Freeman. However, potential does not count for a lot if the results are not as expected. Notre Dame are currently 0-2, Freeman lost to an Oklahoma State team that finished the 2021 season ranked No. 7 overall and to an Ohio State team that is currently ranked No.2 in the country.

What makes the two losses even more disappointing is the fact that in both games, Notre Dame led for over half the game and should have won both the games. Notre Dame led Ohio State for over 33 minutes, and if you count the time it was tied, that goes over 36 minutes.

What gives fans a glimmer of hope is the approach Notre Dame is taking toward these games. For over a decade, Notre Dame has not won games of this kind. While they’re still not winning these games, they’re a lot closer than they were before.
Freeman shared his thoughts on his team’s performance and what they need to do differently in order to secure a win. He said, “There’s no such thing as a moral victory; we didn’t win, we didn’t finish the game, we didn’t execute. I think we found out we’ve got a good football team. We’ve got a good, tough football team. We’ve got to learn how to finish. We’ve got to be able to finish when it matters most, and that’s ultimately what cost us,”
