Fantasy Football ’22: Major Injuries Michael Thomas And More
In fantasy football, especially during the preseason, things happen quite quickly. The roster can be ready for Week 1 one day, but the next, you’re pleading with your commissioner for more IR spots. It gets a little more challenging for those who haven’t even started drafting. Due to their injuries, some well-known figures will probably stay on the board far longer than they ought to.
Here’s a short glance at 5 notable players who are injured and how their recovery is progressing before the start of the regular season as NFL teams start making their last roster cuts and shoring up playing time.
5 Major Injuries –
J.K. Dobbins, RB, Baltimore Ravens
Dobbins, who is attempting to play again after injuring his ACL in the final preseason game before the 2021 season, is unsure of his next steps. Dobbins’ status for the start of the season in Week 1 is highly disputed, according to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic. The tailback would miss an additional three weeks if they were sent to IR. Gus Edwards, the backup, is still listed as a PUP for the time being.
Michael Thomas
Despite the fact that Thomas has been out for almost ten days due to a hamstring injury, it was reported on Thursday that the veteran wide receiver is getting good news. When the Saints play the Falcons in Week 1, Duncan said that he would be shocked if Thomas wasn’t in the starting lineup.
The Saint’s offensive, which hopes to regain full strength for the first time since 2020, will be quite happy with this development.
Jr., RB, Washington Commanders
#Commanders coach Ron Rivera says RB Brian Robinson is “in a really good place” after being the victim last night in an attempted robbery.
Some notes:
— Could be released from the hospital today.
— He’s doing as well as possible given circumstances.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) August 29, 2022
In what investigators say was an attempted robbery, the rookie running back was shot multiple times on August 28 in Washington, D.C. Robinson received “non-life-threatening” injuries to his lower body and was sent to a nearby hospital.
The third-round pick out of Alabama, who appeared set to start the season as Washington’s RB1, has taken a tragic and catastrophic turn.
Zach Wilson, QB, New York Jets
Early in the preseason, Wilson sustained a dreaded non-contact knee injury that required surgery to repair a torn meniscus. He shouldn’t be out for a very long time, which is lovely news. The unfortunate news is that he’ll probably miss at least Week 1.
Michael Gallup, WR, Dallas Cowboys
For Week 1, Gallup won’t be prepared. He might not even suit up for Weeks 2 or 3. The Cowboys WR2 should be available for practice and can hopefully make a quick recovery if he can avoid being placed on the PUP list.
There's another reason to keep Michael Gallup on the 53-man roster at start of season: he can practice. If he remained on PUP and missed four games, he would not be able to practice at all, which means he would likely miss 5-6 games. Going this route allows him to ramp up work.
