“I Don’t Know if It Was the Performance That….he Was Selling”- Dana White Promises a Bat Sh*t Crazy Fight Next Time Out From Israel Adesanya After UFC 276
In the pecking order of the highest-paid athletes in the UFC, Israel Adesanya is probably only behind the likes of Conor McGregor and Jorge Masvidal after signing a new mammoth deal with the promotion. ‘The Last Style Bender’ is one of the most popular fighters on the roster but his stock has taken a hit with his last few performances.
‘Izzy’ secured his third straight unanimous decision win at 276 this month when he took on Jared Cannonier in what was his fifth title defense. Adesanya received a lot of criticism from fans as well as pundits for hyping up the fight and not delivering on his performances.
In the post-fight interview after UFC Long Island, Dana White shared his thoughts on Adesanya’s performance. He said, “I was on vacation. Everything was awesome. He won, I mean, I don’t know if it was the performance that he wanted to give or that he was selling leading into that fight. And you know, the other thing is, I don’t think his opponent was very aggressive either. So it takes two to make a great fight.”
White continued, “Yeah it is interesting. It won’t happen in the next fight. When you’re sitting here in my position, you can’t give too many guarantees, you know. I can say stylistically on paper this should be, or we feel this is going to be a. I f**king guaratee you, I absolutely positively guarantee you, that the next fight Israel Adesanya fights will be absolutely bat sh*t nuts.”
Israel Adesanya to headline Madison Square Garden?
Recent reports confirm that the UFC has booked Madison Square Garden for an event on the 12th of November. The report also suggested that the promotion was either working on Oliveira vs Makhachev or Adesanya vs Pereira as the main event.
Now that Makhachev vs Oliveira is confirmed for Abu Dhabi, in all likelihood, ‘The Last Style Bender’ will take on his arch-rival Alex Pereira at the Mecca of fighting.
