Tracy McGrady Possibly Ending Ties with Adidas
In an interview conducted by Hashtag Sports, Tracy McGrady went on to talk about his Ones Basketball League (OBL), a tournament he founded where players play each other 1-on-1 for a cash prize. When asked about his relationship with Adidas, he said that it was “rocky”, and that he was being treated unfairly in the last 10 years, especially around his creation of OBL, which Adidas didn’t think would work. Tracy McGrady is possibly ending ties with Adidas. He’s been with Adidas for 25 years, but he thinks it’s coming to an end.

It’s unsure how the relationship would end, because back on April 30, 2002, McGrady signed a lifetime contract with Adidas, which allowed him to receive royalties on every pair of shoes sold and all pieces of adidas-branded products under the “T-Mac” banner in the future. He had commented, “This is an exciting time in my life, and I am happy that adidas has the confidence in me both as a basketball player and as a person to make this long-term commitment.” Other players that have received some sort of lifetime contract from sportswear companies include Allen Iverson, Michael Jordan, and Lebron James. Although the details of his contract aren’t known to the general public, McGrady’s backlash most likely serves as some sort of grounds for his contract to be terminated and for their relationship to end.

McGrady’s OBL has been very successful thus far, with the tournament being filled with basketball influencers, current and former pro players, and overall great talent. The games are held across various locations, but the finals will be held in Las Vegas. The finals for the tournament will be held across July 15th and 16th for a $250,000 prize.
