The Best Catches in NFL History Since 2000

In football, there’s many positions that each play their own roles to contribute to a team’s victory. As a wide receiver, players must use their speed and athleticism in order to advance yards and potentially score for the team. However, sometimes there’s more luck involved and that helps make one great play. The game has advanced far, and players are making crazier plays. Here’s a few of the best catches in NFL history since 2000:

Odell Beckham Jr. (2014)

One of the most iconic catches in recent history, OBJ’s one-handed catch created a craze around other players catching with one hand and became a star overnight, immortalizing his position as a receiver.

In a Sunday Night Football match, the New York Giants matched up against the Dallas Cowboys. Giants quarterback Eli Manning launched the ball to a rushing Beckham from beyond the 50-yard line. Cowboys’ cornerback Brandon Carr was tugging at his jersey, yet Beckham was able to fully extend his right arm, make the catch with one hand, somehow keep his body in-bounds, and fall into the endzone to score a touchdown. It marked one of the most athletic and skillful catches ever.


David Tyree (2008)

Featuring another Giants play, the team headed into Super Bowl XLII as underdogs facing off against the undefeated New England Patriots led by all-time great Tom Brady. David Tyree himself wasn’t feeling the best at the time, considering that during practice, he was dropping too many catches for a receiver.

Giants were down 14-10 when Eli Manning took the snap. He was almost sacked, but somehow broke free from the Patriots defensive line and chucked a 40-yard throw to David Tyree, who was getting surrounded by the defense. Somehow, he leaped up and pressed the ball against his helmet with one hand to complete the play that many people consider to be the greatest in Super Bowl history.

Doug Baldwin (2016)

In the year that the Seattle Seahawks won the championship, Seahawks receiver Doug Baldwin made a championship-level effort in a playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings where players faced freezing temperatures.

When quarterback Russell Wilson threw a pass to Baldwin, he elevated high in the air and managed to complete a one-handed catch while being extremely vulnerable to a tackle. His efforts helped them land first down and finish the game with a victory.
