REPORT: NFL Still Short of $14 Billion Than the 2027 Target Revenue Goal
2027 is a very distant year. Most importantly, the NFL expects to generate $25 billion in revenue annually. At the league meetings in Orlando last month, Commissioner Roger Goodell reportedly told ownership about the revenue target, according to SportsBusiness Journal’s Daniel Kaplan. The projection indicates an increase of almost $1 billion a year on average.
Given the concept of time worth of money, the amount isn’t quite as large as it seems. And while it’s unlikely that the NFL will generate $15 billion in additional yearly income in each of the upcoming years, we believe that growth will ultimately surpass that threshold, especially if the NFL extends the regular season and keeps expanding internationally.
How is the league performing five years before that deadline? The league made $15 billion in 2019 and it appeared that they might hit the 2027 target. However, the pandemic struck, and every sport got affected.

NFL makes $11 million in revenue in 2021
The NFL’s national income for 2021 was estimated at $11 billion by Sportico.com. That is the portion of the league’s revenue that is distributed across the 32 teams. It comes to $343.75 million for each club. This comprises both the overall revenue as well as the individual team’s local, unaccountable money.

According to the Packers’ previous year’s annual report, their overall income increased from $296 million to $309.2 million. This equals $9.894 billion in national revenue.
That’s not a great bargain for the fans, though, if the league keeps expanding the income pie by adding games to ever-expensive pay-TV bundles, boosting ticket costs, and other methods of asking the fans to pay more for the same product.
