“Dana White, and Like Half the UFC Roster…..they Thought I Did Enough”- Max Holloway Opens up on His Controversial Loss Against Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 251

There have been only four champions in the history of the UFC’s featherweight division. Jose Aldo became the inaugural champion and ruled the division with an iron fist for the better part of a decade till his title reign was brought to an abrupt halt in 14-seconds by Conor McGregor. McGregor vacated the belt which gave way to Max Holloway to win and defend the belt thrice before losing it to current featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski.

‘Blessed’ is now set to take on Alexander Volkanovski in what will be the third installment of their trilogy. The first fight ended with Holloway losing his belt, after which Holloway was given an immediate rematch, given he was the champion for a long time and that the fight was extremely competitive.

In the rematch, ‘The Great’ secured a split decision win to retain the featherweight title. However, the win was surrounded by controversy as a huge majority of UFC athletes as well as President Dana White himself felt Holloway won the fight and was robbed by the judges. This brings us to the third fight.

Max Holloway states he does not need a belt to be a champion

In a recent interview with Brett Okamoto, Holloway was asked what he made of his first two fights with Volkanovski and if he felt he had done enough to secure the win. He said, “Ahh you know for sure, for sure both times even the second time. But you know, like a wise man once said, ‘it is what it was’. You get back up on the horse and you keep riding.”

‘Blessed’ continued, “We did what we did, like you said, especially the second one, Dana White, and like half the UFC roster said what they said they thought I did enough. I was not there to add any more gas to the fire. It happens. Let it go, you move on and we’re here now.”
