‘They Weren’t Expecting Me to Win’- Julianna Pena on UFC President Dana White Watching Her Defeat ‘Golden Goose’ Amanda Nunes
In conversation with Barstool Chicago, UFC bantamweight champion Julianna Pena made a massive speculation about UFC President Dana White. Per Pena, White and the UFC brass were not too pleased that their ‘golden goose’ in Amanda Nunes was defeated by the ‘Venezuelan Vixen’.
Coming in as a massive underdog, Pena submitted the near-invincible Amanda Nunes after she gassed out in round two. Julianna Pena was able to find a home for nearly all the punches she threw, and she ended up submitting ‘The Lioness’ via RNC without even sinking in both hooks.
Julianna Pena speaks her mind
‘The Venezuelan Vixen’ is as outspoken as they come and she claimed that the UFC was disappointed that Nunes was no longer the champion as it negatively impacted them on a financial scale. Additionally, she said that the top brass of the UFC had their jaws on the floor once they saw Amanda Nunes was finally dethroned in spectacular fashion.
“I think he has, yeah. But, I also think that you know, he’s a little bit bummed that his little golden goose got tapped out. Of course, it’s so much better for them financially to have this girl who’s never been beaten in seven years, never been tapped out, never lost, and has belts in two weight classes, she’s fought the who’s who of the division and she’s slayed all those giants.”
“Of course, they’re not thinking I have a chance and they want her to win because it looks better for the promotion, it looks better for the UFC,” Pena continued. “They weren’t expecting me to win. I literally looked at them after the fight and all of their jaws are to the floor. I was like, sorry to ruin your day guys, sorry but what am I going to do? It’s not anything that’s rigged by any means it’s up to the individual.” [h/t bjpenn.com]
