“Most Coaches…. Their Understanding of the Game Goes up 25 Percent”- Chael Sonnen Discusses How Being a Coach Will Help Henry Cejudo on His Return

There have been many instances in the UFC where a fighter takes a long break from the sport before returning back to action. Former two-division champion Henry Cejudo did just that after his win over Dominick Cruz at UFC 249. ‘Triple C’ revealed that he stepped away from the sport at the peak of his prime as he needed a break.

Now after sitting on the sidelines for two-years, the itch to compete again has motivated Cejudo to get back into the testing pool as he aims for a comeback towards the tail-end of 2022. During his time away from competition, Cejudo has stayed close to the sport. During that time ‘The King of Cringe’ took up a bigger role as a coach in his gym Fight Read along with head coach Eric Albarracin.

Chael Sonnen details the benefits of being a coach for Henry Cejudo

In a recent video posted on his channel former title challenger turned pundit, Chael Sonnen detailed how being a coach will help Henry Cejudo on his return to action. He said, “Most coaches that you meet, this could be any walk of life; be a basketball player. But they will tell you that their understanding of the game, their strategies at a technical standpoint goes up 25 percent as soon as they start coaching. As soon as they have to articulate it and teach it to somebody else. But it’s very hard to coach and compete. Very hard. You’re not going to find me a lot of examples.”

Sonnen continued, “If you’re coaching and you’re selfless or if you’re training and you’re selfish. It’s very hard to combine the two. So I don’t know what Henry’s going to do. I think it is relevant that Henry is going down that new path.”
