“Everything Is to Benefit ‘Sugar’”- Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera Believes Sean O’Malley Had Favorable Match-Making in His UFC Run

UFC bantamweight Marlon Vera didn’t hold back when talking about rival Sean O’Malley in an interview with Brendan Schaub. ‘Chito’ Vera is the only man to defeat O’Malley in the cage and his recent performances have earmarked him as one of the best fighters in the 135-pound division.

As Marlon Vera continues his ascent towards an undisputed title shot, he believes Sean O’Malley has had an easier run in his UFC career thus far. Vera is fresh off a dominant win over Rob Font and is convinced that his path to the top has been supremely more challenging than that of Sean O’Malley.

“They couldn’t find him a better fight in the top 10. They find the smaller guy with the shorter reach. Everything is to benefit ‘Sugar’ because even if he lost, he’s gonna make an excuse. ‘Oh, I fought a tough guy,’ which who f*cking cares? I’ve beat him. When people come to me about it, I’m like, ‘I don’t need that.”

“I’m not looking for hype, I’m not looking for more followers, I don’t give two f*cks.’ I’m making my money, I’m getting up, I’m going after the belt. I’m not going after the hype. I’m not looking to be cool because I know I’m cool. I know I’m funny, I don’t need to chase that sh*t. When you try too hard, you won’t get it.”

The Ecuadorian fighter also lamented the fact that Sean O’Malley turned down the opportunity to face Vera again and this hasn’t sat well with him.

“The UFC three fights ago offered me this fight,” Vera said. “And I called my coach, and we went like this: ‘Let’s do this.’ Sean Shelby, call him first. Don’t call us, you know what’s up with us. … They called him, and they never called back.” [h/t mmajunkie.com]

Sean O’Malley’s run is sure to get a lot harder as he’s circling around the very top of the division. The current crop of bantamweight contenders are dangerous in every sense of the word and they’ll certainly leave it all on the line when facing O’Malley.
