‘They’re Just Clowns at this Point’- UFC Lightweight Contender Beneil Dariush Sounds Off on His Place in the UFC’s Rankings

UFC lightweight contender Beneil Dariush went off on his placement in the official UFC rankings in a recent chat with ‘The Schmo’. In an interview at Kings MMA gym in Huntington Beach, California, Dariush talked about how he was against his current ranking of number 6 in the lightweight ranking.

According to him, he was far more deserving of a higher spot as compared to other fighters like Michael Chandler and even Islam Makhachev. He went on to provide his reasoning for the same and it’s evident that Beneil Dariush feels like he was shortchanged by the rankings makers.

“I want to know who does the rankings so I can ask him like why. What’s the idea behind these guys being infront of me? I understand Islam is on a big win streak but he never actually beat a top 10 or a top 5, I have wins over both of those.”

“Michael Chandler, do I even have to explain myself? Love the guy, I think he’s a great dude. I respect him in so many different ways but like he’s 2-2 in the UFC and it wasn’t like he beat guys that already haven’t been beat. I couldn’t talk about the rankings all day but uh, they’re just clowns at this point.”

Is Beneil Dariush knocking on the door on a title shot?

Beneil Dariush is riding an impressive seven-fight win streak, and he dismantled Tony Ferguson in his last fight back in May 2021. Moreover, he’s earned some stunning knockout wins over names like Drakkar Klose and Scott Holtzman and Beneil Dariush’s game has been constantly evolving at every possible turn.

Dariush is keen to get ahead of the line to fight Charles Oliveira for the vacant lightweight title. Islam Makhachev is arguably the most prominent name who stands in his way as he’s accrued an impressive 10-fight win streak in the UFC.

Beneil Dariush is versatile no matter where the fight goes and he’ll back himself to dethrone the surging former champion who is on an 11-fight win streak. Given the stiffness of the competition, it’s clear that the lightweight division is one of the best that the UFC has to offer.
